Dear Mr. Nyquist,

Thank you for reminding your readers that Castro is not a harmless grandfather but a ruthless egomaniac committed to a communist world. My mother went to the University of Havana School of Law with Castro. My father knew him personally during the late 40s and early 50s. They both agree that Castro is charismatic and intellectually a genius.

He is in many ways similar to Bill Clinton with his intellectual horsepower and spinmeister skills. Castro fooled the Cuban upper and middle classes by claiming to feel their pain and promising to replace Batista with a true democracy. Once in power he threw away the priceless cultural and economic relationship Cuba long enjoyed with the U.S. and replaced it with the shackles of communist enslavement. As a credit to his brilliance, charisma and spin control, he has fooled most of the leftist elite in this country whose naiveté is being laid bare by articles such as yours.

Cuban Americans have long recognized the evil that Castro represents and have served the U.S. in counter-intelligence and covert military operations throughout Latin America over the last forty years. They have turned South Florida into the Hong Kong of Latin America. A shining example of American capitalism and a gateway to Latin America. In return the leftist media has taken every opportunity to demonize and misrepresent this community. Somewhat similar to how the leftist media has treated other politically and socially conservative Americans who recognize the threat that communism poses to the US.

September 11th has been a wake up call to many American. The national debate has been invigorated. The leftist media's babble is being questioned and challenged. Keep up the good work.

God Bless America

Sincerely,

Victor Cabrera

Mr. Nyquist,

Please correct me if I'm wrong or off base but I have to believe that [Russian President] Putin is where he is because of how effective he is, how good he is at the art of persuasion, or more simply put, he's the best all around at what the KGB strived for in their officers. He's been able to fine-tune his skills and take them successfully to the ultimate level, world politics. He's masterful at playing off arrogance and I believe he has, from his perspective, gotten the Bush Administration firmly planted in his back pocket.

Miscalculating the Russians -- that's what Putin wants, it's like the second-to-last piece of the plan. I can't believe how many people think Russia is our good old buddy.

So my non-rhetorical questions to you Mr. Nyquist: 1 - The status of the terrorist, are they still on a mission or in disarray? 2 - Russia and China seemed to be counting on a much longer engagement by the U.S.; however, I'm sure they have considered this scenario as well, what area of the world would they ignite to assure U.S. involvement so as to be on track for a Taiwan invasion? Finally, in my opinion, If the U.S. does catch bin Laden and doesn't kill him on the spot, that mistake could have ramifications the likes we couldn't begin to imagine.

If you made it here, thanks for hearing me out.

Dave,

Many in the Al Qaeda network here and in Europe have been arrested, detained or identified. Al Qaeda operatives are being watched as I write these words. This necessarily has a paralyzing effect on the terrorists, resulting in a suspension of operations. I would venture to guess that Al Qaeda and sister organizations are under great pressure in all but a few countries.

Perhaps bin Laden's purpose has been served in terms of his ultimate sponsors (be they Chinese, Pakistanis or Russians). We simply don't have a lot of good information about his secret connections with the world's real powers. There have been hints and testimony from sources about Al Qaeda's pre-positioning of nuclear weapons inside the United States. Even Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld admitted being worried. At the same time I cannot forget the words of Col. Stanislav Lunev, who once told me: "If a nuclear weapon is detonated on American soil and they say it is Arab terrorists, don't believe it."

Delivering a severe blow to the United States is highly problematic. The United States is a large country. Even inflicting a million casualties would hardly slow us down. Any attack which fails to destroy or cripple us utterly would only serve to energize America toward a new militarism and a strengthened global position. Therefore, great care must be taken when playing with nuclear fire.

The U.S. is still asleep, despite the events of 9-11.

on another point, you ask about Taiwan and China. In recent days we have seen the breakdown of talks between North and South Korea. The Communists of the North are threatening war, and military exercises are impending. We also see China preparing for a new round of exercises opposite Taiwan. The Far East is vulnerable at this time due to U.S. deployments against Afghanistan. Carriers and troops have been diverted.  A window of opportunity has opened.

Do the North Koreans and Chinese feel lucky?

It does appear that something big and nasty is waiting for us. And waiting, and waiting, etc. The lights burn all night at the Kremlin. And there must be frustration over there since our economy did not collapse after the destruction of the Twin Towers. But our enemy's chief virtue is patience. So their game continues. It is a developing game. They have penetrated our intelligence establishment and government, as we've seen during the Clinton years. They have used criminal networks and drug trafficking to bring weapons of mass destruction into the country. But none of this is enough. It just isn't the right "correlation of forces," as the Leninists would say, to bring decisive victory.

And now, everyone wants to know what happens next.

I foresee a sequence of devastating moves involving several anti-American players. I am talking about nations like North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, South Africa, China, Iraq and others. I do not know what this move could be, or whether the best laid plans -- in this instance -- will hold together or fall to pieces. But one thing is certain: the Russians are pouring out their oil in an irrational way, as if the Saudi oil were not a factor.

I suspect that Oil is going to play a part in this. Oil is blood in the veins of the world economy. Any loss of blood and the world economy suffers shock. All the destabilizing events of the last 15 months, especially in the Middle East and Indonesia, are suggestive.

Watch the House of Saud!
